The question that always comes first is how many days you need to be in Bogotá. The answer is: three weeks.
The two protocols
A full rehabilitation with immediate loading can be resolved in two ways, and both are immediate loading:
Temporary in 48 to 72 hours. You leave with fixed temporary teeth in two or three days. The final prosthesis is made afterwards, which means a second trip.
Final in 2 to 3 weeks. You leave with the final prosthesis in place. Roughly two weeks for a single arch, three for both. For someone coming from abroad, the second protocol is usually the one that makes sense: a single trip, and you go home with the final work done.
Why three weeks and not two
Technically it can be done in less. I’ve done it. But I don’t promote it, and the reason is practical: if any adjustment comes up during the process — a fit that needs refining, a healing time that asks for one more day — with two weeks you end up racing the clock on a ticket you’ve already bought. Three weeks give room to do things well without rushing. And in a treatment that will be with you permanently, that additional week isn’t a cost: it’s the assurance that nothing was done in a hurry.
Week by week
Before traveling
Remote assessment with photos and medical history, definition of the time range, confirmation of dates and coordination of the schedule.
Days 1 and 2
CT scan, intraoral scan, clinical examination and complete digital planning. This is where the real plan is defined, reviewed with you on screen and confirmed before anything is touched. If something needs adjusting relative to what was estimated remotely, this is the moment.
Day 3 or 4
Surgery. Implant placement according to the plan, with a surgical guide. In most cases you leave with fixed temporary teeth the same day or the next.
First week
Recovery. Swelling for the first few days, soft diet, close follow-up. This is the week when it’s best not to have demanding plans.
Second week
Records taken and the final prosthesis manufactured. Fitting appointments. There are days with appointments and free days.
Third week
Final adjustments, installation of the definitive prosthesis, bite review and delivery of maintenance instructions. Everything is working before you leave.
Back home
Remote follow-up and check-ups.
What to resolve before traveling
Your medical situation. If you take anticoagulants, osteoporosis medication or have conditions requiring coordination with your physician, that has to be resolved beforehand, not on arrival.
Accommodation is nearby. There are multiple lodging options close to the practice thanks to our privileged location near Bogotá’s El Dorado international airport.
Genuinely free days. Don’t plan domestic trips or demanding activities during the first week.
Closing
A treatment of this size done far from home demands planning from both sides. On mine, having the plan ready and the schedule organized before you arrive.
